Progress

There is the need for this heritage  to be alive and communicated. In this regard, the younger generations, especially the high school students, who are used to managing complex digital communities, could represent a powerful driving force in sharing this great wealth of cultural contents. Moreover, creating opportunities for teenagers and elders to dialogue on common shared interests and goals could provide the needed continuity and stewardship regarding this heritage. Visual arts and digital transference could represent the best tools to disseminate these contents.

June 2021 Kick-off meeting

Last spring, the partners of the Lo-Fi project started face-to-face the project for the generation of tools for the recovery of traditional knowledge associated with food production and transformation.

The chosen place was Valencia, where the European partners were invited to participate in local intercultural activities and learn about the agro-food heritage of l’Horta de València and l’Albufera.

October 2021 Perugia Food event

In autumn 2022, we held in Perugia the first intercultural and intergenerational meeting to share food, experiences and traditional knowledge from different countries and regions (Costa d’Avorio, Morocco, Ecuador, Syria).

In this meeting we worked with the graphic recording technique to record this knowledge, testing with different artistic tools to collect and dynamize this educational experience.

December 2022 – Pedagogical plan and training materials

Local knowledge concerning traditional food processing is disappearing. The loss of knowledge of the food artisans, elders in many cases, is irreversible. The globalization of the food system, the urban development, or the disappearance of generational relief in traditional practices are some of the most significant issues, depriving us of a formidable legacy of knowledge.

Collecting and preserving this wisdom is essential for understanding our territorial reality. Food and related processing practices can provide a formidable platform for building a more democratic and inclusive society, creating the opportunity for communities to express a plethora of cultural values that could be easily shared, understood, and appreciated. We will design and develop the training plan and materials to create a training course geared towards teachers so they can train students in the subjects related to traditional and local knowledge on food processing. It will consist of making available the materials and didactic resources necessary to carry out the project development and help us to achieve the objectives.

This has to do with sharing knowledge related to the topics and methods used in designing and implementing Lo-Fi project and creating specific material that could be used as a support resource for all those parts of the curriculum concerning traditional food processing. The Training Modules scheme will be: E-R-S Exposing – Registering – Sharing.

March 2023 Toolkit for registering the information through visual art tools

forthcoming events We will Build-up an innovative digital toolkit for registering the information gathered from these sharing spaces around traditional food processing through visual art tools. It aims to develop a methodological guide for the implementation of innovation strategies to encourage youth participation in the registration process itself. This toolkit is a practical guide execution of the information registering. It will provide students with the necessary tools to achieve the objectives in an active and practical way.

Therefore, it will be useful to guide the user in transferring control and facilitating a participatory process. Visual art tools are proposed as flexible media to capture the information, such as food processing experiences, and translate it into another artistic expression. It seeks to achieve group participation in the content creation. Ultimately, it is about developing a manual through which teenagers are involved in the process of collecting first-person stories from the elders related to traditional food processing.
